Eva Gemmill has written a wonderful history of the library (2001-2011) for our 10th anniversary. I encourage visitors to this site to take a look at the story. Eva and her tremendous way with words has made the past 10 years come alive again. You will see many familiar faces in the pictures and many names mentioned in the story. She put a great deal of time, effort, and love into this project. I had to really force her hand to even include herself in the story! She was a key player in the whole new building and in all the grants and recognitions we received!

Please share this with your friends (Friends) and families. Reading the story makes you realize why we all have such a fondness for the library and all the people that made/make it happen! Moving into the new space was a tremendous community effort. It is easy to forget how hard it was at some points.

Eva is now working on the old history of the library. From the 1800s (I think) to 2001, where the current story begins. We’ll get that posted too when it is done.

You will find the “Our Story” tab at the top of this page. It has been formatted so it can also be read on a mobile device.

Thank you,
Margie Morris
Director

Poestenkill Spirit Day, on October 29th at the Poestenkill Fire House, will feature a Roast Beef Dinner and various raffles.

The Roast Beef Dinner will be sponsored by the Poestenkill Business Association. Reservations may be made by calling 279-6680. Leave your name, telephone number, and the number of tickets you require. Adult tickets will be $15 and Children under the age of 12 will be $10. Payment will be made at the door. The doors will open at 4PM to give everyone time to view the raffle items. Dinner will be served starting at 5PM and service will end at 7PM.

There are also a number of exciting items to be raffled. A 40” flat screen television has been donated. Tickets will be $5 each. For more information on how to get raffle tickets and a chance to win the television, please call Sue Horton at Town Hall 283-5100.

Local merchants are helping in the effort by donating a variety of desirable items. Future updates will include a list of some of the donations. The items will be on display the night of the Roast Beef Dinner. Tickets for this “Chinese” raffle will be $1 each.

An additional way to show your Poestenkill Spirit will be to purchase a T-shirt, designed by local artist, Mike Hayes. A graphic of the mountain, the creek and the rain with the caption, “Poestenkill Spirit Day-We Survived the Flood of 2011” makes these shirts a true community spirit booster. Shirts are $15 each or two for $25. They are on sale at Town Hall or you can call Joan Hayes at 286-3019. All monies collected in the sales of these shirts will go directly to the Flood Victims Fund.

So, show your Poestenkill Spirit! October 29th will be a great day to demonstrate community support for those residents who continue to struggle with the aftermath of the recent tropical storms.
