Award-winning Friends of Poestenkill Library

Joan Hayes proudly displays the Volunteer of the Year award that the Friends of Poestenkill Library received from the Upper Hudson Library System on June 8th. The Friends were honored at the 50th Annual Dinner of the Upper Hudson Library System during a Hudson River cruise on the Captain J. P.
The many volunteers that make up the core of the Friends, and the many more Friends who help out at special events, provide invaluable service to the Poestenkill Library. The Spring and Fall Market Days sponsored by the Friends and the annual Holiday Lights Appeal raise funds to contribute to the operation of the library and help make ends meet. Many hours of planning and hard work make these endeavors wonderful community events and play a key part in promoting the Poestenkill Library and its services.
The value of the Friends of Poestenkill Library cannot be measured just by the amount of money they raise. It is their enthusiasm and dedication to the Poestenkill Library that helps to make the library the success that it is.
Congratulations to this great group of volunteers! It is well deserved!
Celebrate July 4th in Poestenkill – 9:30am
Join the fun on the Poestenkill Town Green at the Poestenkill Library. The Poestenkill Jam Group will provide music from the porch of the library and the Friends of Poestenkill Library will provide lemonade and watermelon. The star of the annual event is always the gigantic American flag, handsewn in 1863 by a Poestenkill resident. In honor of the age of the flag, traditional games are played – one of the most fun is the watermelon seed “ejection” contest. See who will “eject” their watermelon seeds the farthest this year!
Bring a lawn chair or blanket.
The library will be closed for business on July 4th.
