MBA Admission Print

Overview

Interested in helping us change business for good?

BGI reviews applications each month and admits students on a space available basis. Please see the chart below for the next round of deadlines.

"Due to growing interest in our program, we will be opening a second MBA cohort for the Fall of 2008. This additional cohort will meet on a different weekend for the monthly residencies, allowing us to increase our enrollment to two classes of 50 MBA students each."

We are currently accepting applications for:
MBA in Sustainable Business: Fall 2008
Certificate in Sustainable Business: Spring 2008, Fall 2008
Certificate in Sustainable Entrepreneurship & Intrapreneurship: Fall 2008

Our goal is to select students who have the highest potential to lead successful enterprises that build a better world.

The admission process is designed to select students with strong academic background and capability, work and leadership experience, and personal and professional goals fitting with this mission. We seek students for whom our MBA and certificate programs will provide needed knowledge, competencies, relationships, and leadership development to enable them to succeed. In addition, our objective is to admit students who will contribute to the diversity of our learning community and to the diversity of professional leaders and managers in organizations. Applicants self-select during pre-admission communications, which address BGI mission, program, learning community, faculty, intensives, career planning and academic advising. Often this involves in-depth discussions with faculty and administrators, interviews with current students and alumni, and attending classes. For more information, please see the 2007-2008 catalog. (The new 2008-’09 catalog will be published early in 2008.)

MBA Admission
Evaluation for admission is based on verbal and written communication skills, reasoning and analytical ability, leadership potential, intellectual ability, interest in sustainability, and fit with BGI mission and learning pedagogy as demonstrated through:

• a personal statement and essay;
• admission interview;
• past work experience;
• previous academic experience and performance;
• the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
• commentary and assessment in applicant’s letters of recommendation;
• community activities, voluntary and extracurricular projects;
• basic proficiency with technology and software;
• personal circumstances that might have influenced performance.

We also look for students who will contribute to the academic, cultural, ethnic, racial, sexual and socio-economic diversity and evolution of our learning community.

Application Packet

To be considered for admission and granted an interview, a complete application packet must be on file, which consists of:

1. Online application
2. Personal Statement
3. Essay (effective November 29, 2007)
4. Resume
5. Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
6. Two Letters of Recommendation
7. GMAT scores
8. $95 application fee (effective October 1, 2007). This fee is non-fundable and non-waivable and due at the start of application.

Note: In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, we send most admission related materials, forms, and letters electronically.

MBA Application Deadlines

We offer rolling admission. Rolling admission is where applicants are invited to complete an application anytime during the recruitment cycle (October – August). We review applications regularly and notify the applicants of our official decision usually within a few weeks from the time of submission. Applications will be accepted until the program is full.

The sooner you complete an application, the more likely you will get a seat in the program of your choice. Once the program is full a waitlist will be established.

Certificate Admission
Application to either BGI's Certificate Program in Sustainable Business or the Certificate Program in Entrepreneurship & Intrapreneurship is straightforward and easy. No recommendations or test scores are required. Admission is open to anyone with a bachelor’s degree or work experience equivalent, but the programs are delivered at the graduate school level. Proof of your highest degree completed is required. However, unofficial transcripts or a copy of your diploma will suffice. Evaluation for admission is based on review of personal statement; past work and academic experience as summarized in a résumé; experience in community activities, voluntary and extracurricular projects; and basic proficiency with technology and software.

For information on the cost of BGI's certificate programs, please see our costs page.

Application Deadlines
Applications for the Spring 2008 Sustainable Business certificate program are due no later than Friday, March 14.

Applications for Fall 2008 for both certificate programs are also being reviewed. We strongly recommend that you complete the application process early, as interest in these programs is high. You may apply at any time under rolling admission. If the class is not full, we will review applications monthly, and you will be informed of our decision within one week. Once the quarter has started, new applicants are automatically considered for the next quarter. If you intend to apply, please call or write Jim Stretch, 206-855-9559 x-208; jim.stretch@bgiedu.org.

Application Process

A complete application includes:

  • A document or copy of a document verifying the highest degree earned. This can be a high school diploma, General Equivalency Development (GED) Test, college or university diploma or transcripts. (If you are unable to provide proof of high school graduation or GED, a notarized affidavit to this effect is sufficient.)
  • Completed BGI Application for Admission
  • Resume
  • Personal Statement—1-page describing your interest in, and expectations for the program
  • $50 Application Fee

If you wish to inquire about an application already started, please email applications@bgiedu.org or call the office at (206) 855-9559.
