A group of people representing the Poestenkill Business Association, Town Hall, the Highway Department and the Library met to discuss ways that our community can help the victims of the recent storm and subsequent flooding.
These victims are working hard to return to some degree of normalcy. They face new challenges every day; some with contaminated wells and waterlogged septic systems in addition to flooded homes. Following are some ways our community can help.
Bottled Water – Donations may be dropped off at Town Hall. Gallon jugs are preferable to minimize plastic trash.
Monetary Donations – Please make checks payable to: Poestenkill Business Association (in the memo section Flood Victims Fund). Checks and cash be dropped off at Town Hall or placed in the donation pitcher at the Library (next to the Candy Jar). These monies will be used to directly aid the families in need.
Volunteers – There is no formal list yet to match volunteers to those who need help. As soon as information is available, it will be posted.
A preliminary plan is in place for a community ‘spirit day’ to be held on October 29 at the Fire House. There will be dinner (provided by the Fire Department), silent auction and raffles- proceeds to benefit the Poestenkill Business Association Flood Victims Fund. Plans are very tentative at this point. More information will be available soon on this site and in the Advertiser.
We should also remember to recognize our Highway Department for the incredible number of hours they have worked since the day of the storm. They continue to work very hard to repair the flooded areas. Toby, the Highway Superintendent, would like to remind residents who have flood-damaged items that there are three (3) dumpsters that can be used. Please see http://www.townofpoestenkillny.org/ for flood-related information.
