Did you know you can borrow ebooks through the library? By clicking on OverDrive link on the right, under Catalog, you can access OverDrive (Upper Hudson Library System, UHLS, manages all the downloadable ebooks, audiobooks, and videos through OverDrive). Once you enter the OverDrive page, go to Digital Help (on the blue menu bar), then select OverDrive Help. It will walk you through what you need to do for your specific device in order to access the items you want to request.
The items in the OverDrive collection are “owned” by all the libraries in Albany and Rensselaer counties. Poestenkill Library will dedicate 10% of the book budget ($1,500) toward adding to this pooled collection over the course of 2013. Because publishers charge libraries higher prices (sometimes 100-300% higher than list price if you were to purchase it yourself), there can be long reserve lists for some of the newest titles. Currently, OverDrive is the only mechanism for downloading ebooks, audiobooks, and videos through UHLS. Local libraries and UHLS are committed to investigating other options for providing this service.
