Summer News & Events

There are great things happening at the Poestenkill Library this summer! The Summer Reading theme is “A Universe of Stories” and we are planning a world of events!

June 22, 9:00-noon: Garage Sale. The Friends of Poestenkill Library are selling 10×10 spaces for $10 to set up your garage sale. The Friends will also have tables of items for sale. Multi-vendor sale! There will be some great bargains & lots of puzzles!

June 26, 6:30-7:30pm: Library Lab – Make Some Waves & Some Good Vibrations! Explore how sound waves travel. We’ll have dancing sprinkles, and play songs with straws and kazoos.

July 1, 6:30-7:30: Cookbook Book Club for AdultsAppetizers. Bring an appetizer that you have never made before and the cookbook you used for the recipe.

July 2, 6:30-7:30pm: Summer Reading Challenge Kickoff party! Stewart’s Ice Cream Social & CMOST (Children’s Museum of Science & Technology) “Out of this World” program. See details on the Summer Reading Challenge at the end of this post.


Thank you Stewart’s for the supplies to make ice cream sundaes and for the grant to help offer all these great summer programs!

July 10, 6:30-7:30pm: LEGO Club – Technology/Robots theme

July 11, 6:30-7:30pm: Annual Family Tie Dye Night! Bring a white or light t-shirt, socks, pillowcase, etc (small items) and we provide everything else! This is always a favorite event! Rain date 7/18.

July 20, 9:00-noon: Friends of Poestenkill Library Bake Sale at the Poestenkill Farmers’ Market. Lots of delicious items for sale!

July 24, 6:00-7:00pm: Goat Yoga on the lawn with 4-J’s Farm!

August 5, 6:30-7:30: Cookbook Book Club for AdultsDesserts. Bring a dessert that you have never made before and the cookbook you used for the recipe.

August 14, 6:30-7:30pm: LEGO Club – Surprise Challenge!

Summer Reading Challenge for all ages – A Universe of Stories!

    Grand Prize is a Sports Action Camera (a less expensive version of a Go-Pro) at each level – Adult, Teen, & Child.

    July 2 – August 17: Pick up a registration form and reading record at the library. Tickets to enter drawing are earned as you read. Read, read, read to increase your chances of having the winning ticket!

    Good Things to Know:

    *Several staff members of the library are also coordinating activities with the Poestenkill Youth Advisory for summer camp. For example, Lianne Thompson will be bringing library books to camp every Tuesday afternoon and staying to read a story or two.

    *We have all the titles on the Algonquin Middle School Summer Reading lists for grades 6-8.

    *Via Aquarium – save $2.00 off aquarium passes for up to 4 people with your library card

    *USS Slater Pass – Admits up to 2 Adults & 2 Children. 3-day loan.

    *Clark Institute Pass – Admits 1 Adult. 3-day loan.

    *SPAC Library Nights – 20% off selected performances for Upper Hudson Library System card holders. New York City Ballet, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Yamato: The Drummers of Japan, and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Use the first 5 digits of your library card as your PROMO CODE when you order. Visit SPAC.org/library for tickets.

    *Proctor’s – They have built a coupon code for Libraries. The code is LIBRARYPASS and will work for a 10% discount on participating Broadway shows. Code can be redeemed online, by phone, or at the Box Office, you don’t need your library card for this code.

    *We have a huge selection of cake pans to borrow!
