The Poestenkill Library

Access information. Discover ideas. Enjoy reading.

We are sorry to have to say the library will be closed until further notice.

Due to the COVID-19 virus crisis, we are extending the library closure out indefinitely. We will reopen as soon as it is safe for both staff and patrons to be in the library.

The Upper Hudson Library System, manager of our automation system, has extended the due dates on all checked out items and has extended the expiration date on cards to July 1. In addition, new online registrations will be valid for 90 days rather than the standard 14 days to allow new patrons to access online resources such as those listed below and as always Overdrive for ebooks, audiobooks, and a small collection of movies. Good news for anyone who’s had to stop their genealogical research since the library closed! You can now log in with your library card and use Ancestry for Libraries at home!

Emergency Book Supply Box
I put a tub of books out on the entry porch with a little bit of some reading material for everyone. I will refill it as needed. You can take one or two items from the box. You should not return them to the box/library. Please do not add any books to this tub and please do not leave any donated books at the library at this time. I have made sure that what was put into the tub was clean and relatively (pre-COVID-19) germ-free. I know that once someone goes in to look through the tub all that flies out the window, but I know they were okay when they went in. I cannot assure that with donated books I have not processed.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please email me at or leave a message at 518-283-3721 with any questions or concerns. Joan, Phil, Lianne, Colleen, Taylor, Isabella, & I, as well as the trustees, appreciate your patience, understanding, and support regarding this difficult decision during this unsettled time. Watch this site or visit our Facebook page for updates on our status.
