The first step in our re-opening process is ready to start! The newly repaired Front Porch of Poestenkill Library will be open for business! Front Porch Pickup Services will begin on Monday, June 15.
What you need to know…
Porch pickup hours will be:
Monday & Friday – 10:00am to 1:00pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday – 2:00pm to 6:00pm
We plan to add Saturday hours over the summer.
These hours will remain in place and the library building will remain closed to the public until further notice.
We are unable to accept donations of used materials at this time. Please do not leave items on the porch. We do plan to have a couple of donation days over the summer to allow people to bring items for our book sale and put them right into the shed. At this time, we will need to throw out any donated items as we cannot handle them safely.
What you need to do…
As always, you may order your books, movies, or music online through the Upper Hudson Library System (UHLS) for 24-hour access to the catalog. If there is an item that you know to be on our shelves, you can call or text us at 518-603-7705 (our new cell phone) or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also call or text to reserve the newest bestseller titles as our copies are non-requestable through the catalog. We mark them as such for 3 months in order to keep them available for Poestenkill patrons, rather than them going into the system. The wait for the new 14-day books will be much shorter than reserving from the catalog. If you’re interested in seeing what’s new, our New Item List is available.
Email and phone orders will be processed within one library business day. Items ordered through the online catalog will take longer as they are being quarantined for 72 hours at UHLS before delivery to us at the library. They are then ready to be safely checked out.
Until further notice, all newly returned items will be quarantined for 72 hours before being checked in. (Fees/fines are being waived.) We are only able to accept returns via the book drop, even DVDs and CDs.
When your items are available and ready for pickup, we will call or text you to arrange a time period for pickup. Pickup of items will occur on The Front Porch of Poestenkill Library. Please do not touch the items placed there for other patrons.
Facial coverings and physical distancing of 6’ are required in the Library building and on its premises. If you are unable to access the Front Porch for any reason, we will be happy to make other accommodations.
All library materials are being handled with the utmost care regarding the health and safety of our patrons, staff, and community. Items returned to the library and traversing through the Upper Hudson Library System are being quarantined a minimum of 72 hours before being checked in. This will cause some delays in fulfillment of orders, but we feel this is a wise and necessary precaution. It will also create a delay in seeing returned items removed from your account. Our library is fine-free and most libraries are waiving fines to allow for late returns that may occur due to the systemic delays
All library staff have been provided with PPEs (e.g., masks, gloves) and have been instructed in their mandatory use when handling library materials. Hand washing and hand sanitizing is done frequently throughout each person’s shift.
All staff are also required to affirm that they a) do not have symptoms indicative of COVID-19 and b) have not had, do not have, nor have been exposed to COVID-19 in the 14 days prior to reporting to work on any given day.
Our goal is to move forward from this level of reopening to a level where we can allow access to the building on a limited basis, and ultimately, to restore library services to pre-pandemic levels. We can only do this with the help of our Library community. We are counting on your patience as we carve this path into unchartered land and thank you for your continuing support.
We can’t wait to get library materials to you!!
