The Poestenkill Library

Access information. Discover ideas. Enjoy reading.

In-person browsing is being suspended through the end of January.

Due to the ever-increasing positive case numbers in Rensselaer County, we will suspend appointments for in-person browsing from 12/16/20 – 1/31/21. This will be reassessed at the end of January. We will continue to offer item pick up inside the foyer. Reserve items via the online catalog and we will call, text, or email you when your item(s) is ready for pickup. Please call us if you need assistance finding an item. We can also create “bundles” for you, especially helpful with children’s books.

Online Resources
In addition to being able to reserve items through the online catalog, there are many other online resources available to library card holders. If you do not have a library card, you may register online here for one. This will give you access to all online resources. Other resources are:
Overdrive – ebooks, audiobooks, videos, and magazines (over 600 titles). Materials for all ages. There is a link to Overdrive on this page and an app called Libby, by Overdrive is also available. Overdrive has a great selection with a 14 day loan period and single-use items.
Flipster – magazines that are not available on Overdrive. There is a link on this page and an app is available.
Hoopla – This is the newest offering for online services. Borrow ebooks, audiobooks, comics, music, and TV with no holds or late fees. There is simultaneous use with the items on Hoopla. Sign up here or with the Hoopla app.

UHLS databases – The Upper Hudson Library system has a list of database available to all patrons.

Personal message from the director:
It is not easy to make the decision to close the library to the public. It is done for the safety of the staff and of our patrons. Unless we are directed to close by the County or State government, we will not have a complete shut down as we experienced last Spring. We have learned how to safely circulate items and quarantine them upon their return. The staff and I want to keep items going out to everyone who wants them. I truly hope we can open again for appointments at the beginning of February. After all, February is Love Your Library month! At this time, we do not plan to reduce our hours. Please call us if you need help finding or reserving an item. It gets lonely without our wonderful friends coming in to get books. We want to do what we can to help. Please check out some of the online resources listed above. I love to read magazines on my iPad, what a great selection on Overdrive to choose from!
I wish a safe and Merry Christmas to you all.
