The Poestenkill Library Board of Trustees has hired Amanda Martinez-Kirby as the new Library Director. Having relocated to the Capital Region from Pennsylvania, Martinez-Kirby most recently served as the Director of the Western Allegheny Community Library where she expanded library programs and services, in addition to forming lasting partnerships with community organizations and the local school district. From clerk to director, she has relished her work in public libraries and has a particular appreciation for the vital role a library plays in a small, rural town. “Libraries are the beating hearts of small communities,” she said. “They have the ability to adapt to meet people’s needs and to provide something for everyone.” Margie Morris, the Director of the Poestenkill Library since 1999, will retire at the end of the summer. Martinez-Kirby will assume her position on September 8.
