Library Hires New Director

The Poestenkill Library has hired Donna Riley as the Library Director, effective November 29, 2021. Riley brings extensive local library experience to this position. She has been an active member of the Friends at the William K. Sanford Library in Colonie, she served as a Children’s Librarian in East Greenbush, and she has worked at North Greenbush Public Library for several years.  Among her many duties at the North Greenbush, she currently develops programming, creates and monitors social media, and supports various customer needs. “Little libraries are what I love,” said Riley. “Supporting our rural communities by providing library resources is work that is worth doing, the best prize in life.” With her parents as long-time residents of Poestenkill, Riley has been a regular visitor to Market Day and an admirer of Poestenkill’s appreciation for its library. Amanda Martinez-Kirby, the Director since September 8, has resigned–reluctantly–for a relocation opportunity that is in the best interests of her family. “My short time with the Poestenkill Library has been so meaningful and rewarding,” said Martinez-Kirby. “I hate to leave, but I am so honored to have had even a small part in the history of this wonderful library.”
